        Theodore Zalkind - Musical Director and Conductor

        Mr. Zalkind is an elementary school string and wind instrument teacher for the Granite School District. Working with students in fifth and sixth grades, Mr. Zalkind instructs both beginner and intermediate level players. Mr. Zalkind and his wife, Susan, run the Zalkind Music Studio, offering private trumpet lessons to students at all grade levels. They also organize and run the Summerhays Music Center “Summer Music Jam” Camp for elementary age students on string, wind and percussion instruments.

        Mr. Zalkind has been a public school music teacher for over twenty three years, teaching and conducting a wide variety of orchestra and band ensembles in both Utah and California, including fourteen years teaching at the high school level. Mr. Zalkind also has extensive experience organizing honor band and orchestra ensembles, music festivals, and adjudicating.

        Mr. Zalkind holds a Bachelor of Music degree from California State University, Northridge, a Master of Music Education degree from the University of Utah, and has begun work on a PhD in Music Education at the University of Utah. He is a member of the Music Educators National Conference, the Utah Music Education Association, the International Trumpet Guild, and the American Federation of String Teachers Association. A member of the trumpet section of the Salt Lake Symphonic Winds, Mr. Zalkind is currently serving as President of the organization. Active as a musician, Mr. Zalkind has also performed with a wide variety of ensembles on the trumpet, including participation in the Rafael Mendez Brass Institute in Denver, Colorado and as a member of the Alan Hancock College Concert Band in Santa Maria, California.
