About the Orchestra:

The Wasatch Community Symphony Orchestra of Salt Lake City is the oldest continuing community orchestra in the area.  The orchestra was founded by Kenneth Kuchler in 1953.  It is comprised of members from the community who donate their time to play in the organization.  Some members have played in the orchestra for more than twenty, thirty, or even forty years.  Our musicians represent many vocations, including homemakers, professional musicians, accountants, artists, educators, engineers, nurses, doctors, and students.  As a non-profit organization, the orchestra is educational in scope, providing the performers and listeners with a broad range of experiences in symphonic literature.  Free concerts are presented for the public.

The Wasatch Community Symphony Orchestra contributes positively to the musical environment of the area it serves by providing an opportunity for musical expression and growth among its membership. The orchestra provides opportunities for members to meet and perform with musicians of advanced proficiency. The Orchestra performs the best standard symphonic repertoire and newer works of general interest and educational value.  Its success over the past fifty-five years continues to reaffirm the importance of the community orchestra in American music.

Partially funded by Salt Lake County's Zoo, Arts, and Parks Program (ZAP)

ZAP logoThe Wasatch Community Symphony Orchestra thanks the voters of Salt Lake County for their support of the Zoo, Arts & Parks program. One-tenth of one percent of the Salt Lake County sales tax goes to support local cultural, botanical, and zoological organizations. This funding has not only stabilized many of Salt Lake’s cultural organizations, but has also funded the construction of new recreational facilities, and improved walking trails. ZAP funding helps to provide “free” days, free concerts, reduce ticket prices for students, and provide in-school programs for children in grades kindergarten through twelfth grade.
