The Wasatch Community Symphony Orchestra of Salt Lake City is the oldest continuing community orchestra in the area.  Theodore Zalkind was appointed as the Orchestra’s Music Director and Conductor in 2009.  The conductor and all musicians donate their time to rehearse and provide free concerts for the public. The commitment of the players is evidenced by the fact that, in addition to providing their talents, they donate annual dues to the organization. Some members have played in the orchestra for more than thirty, forty, or even fifty years. Our musicians represent many vocations, including homemakers, professional musicians, accountants, artists, educators, engineers, nurses, doctors, and students and they represent all age groups. As a non-profit organization, the orchestra is educational in scope, providing the performers and listeners with a broad range of experiences in symphonic literature.

The Wasatch Community Symphony Orchestra, founded by Kenneth Kuchler in 1953, contributes positively to the musical environment of the area it serves by providing an opportunity for musical expression and growth among its membership. The orchestra provides opportunities for members to meet and perform with musicians of advanced proficiency. The Orchestra performs the best standard symphonic repertoire and newer works of general interest and educational value. Its success for more than fifty years continues to reaffirm the importance of the community orchestra in American music.
